Welcome. Most people feel more comfortable in contacting a healthcare provider when they have some knowledge of that professional’s training, qualifications, personality and working style. I specialize in working with adolescents (age 14 years or older) and their families, as well as with adults and seniors in resolving difficulties they experience in their personal, family, academic or work relationships. Treatment focuses on personal strengths the individual or family possesses—emphasizing the control, power and accountability each has, and how to view difficulties from a more balanced, shared perspective.
A Diverse Background
I began my college experience in 1988 at California State University in Long Beach, achieving a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in psychology. Next, I traveled to the east coast and completed my graduate studies at The New School for Social Research in New York City, receiving a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Research Psychology and then a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Clinical Psychology. During my graduate training, I completed an APA-approved clinical internship and then a fellowship at NYU Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital.
After a decade of academic learning and training, I returned to my family roots in the Midwest, where I began my work as a Staff Psychologist and then a Psychologist Supervisor for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections at a juvenile correctional facility. After deciding Prairie du Chien, WI was a bit remote — though quite beautiful, I relocated to the Milwaukee area and began working at a local hospital (Aurora’s Women’s Pavilion), before finally settling into private practice. Since 2002, I’ve worked at several private practice clinics and now enjoy being the owner of Suburban Counseling Services. |
